300 HOUR PROJECT
WHAT IS THE 300 HOUR PROJECT?
The purpose of the 300 Hour Project is to help writers make a habit of writing every day. The hope is to achieve this by providing a challenge similar to Nanowrimo, but designed to make writing daily a year long thing, not just a month long thing.
WHAT ARE THE SPECIFICS OF THE CHALLENGE?
1. Write 1000 words a day.
2.Write for at least one hour a day, composed of four uninterrupted 15 minute sprints.
3. Write 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year (a total of 250 days a year).
WHY ONLY 250 DAYS Â A YEAR?
Everyone needs some days off. Only writing 5 days a week allows for some time to rest. Without taking an occasional break, the likelihood of burnout increases. Breaks, as weird as it sounds, can help the creative process.
WHICH 5 DAYS DO I WRITE?
Your writing schedule is entirely up to you. You can write Monday–Friday, or randomly throughout the week. If you want to write all 7 days, that is allowed too. Whatever will work best for you is when you should write!
WHICH TWO WEEKS DO I TAKE OFF IN THE YEAR?
Much like the weekly schedule, this is entirely up to you. It can be hard to write over the holidays, so if you can't, don't have enough time, or simply don't want to, you don't have to. You also don't have to take the two weeks off at the same time, or even take a full week at once if you don't want to. Use these 10 days off anywhere you need them.
HOW CAN I KEEP TRACK OF MY WRITING THROUGHOUT THE YEAR?
Below there is a spread sheet you can use to record your writing sessions. It is available in a few formats: Numbers, Excel, and Google Sheets. The spreadsheets are complete with formulas, so all you have to do is plug in your numbers. The home page of the spread sheet "Totals". You don't have to enter any numbers in this sheet, as it brings the totals from other pages and adds them all together.
